Alpha Kanu, a Sierra Leonean politician and member of the opposition All Peoples Congress (APC), has announced his intention to formally declare his support for the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). Kanu has confirmed that he will be resigning from the APC and joining the SLPP on April 28th, 2023, according to a statement he made to Awareness Times. He cites his desire to pledge his unwavering support for H.E. Maada Bio's re-election campaign as the reason for his decision. This defection is expected to have a significant impact on Sierra Leone’s political landscape and the upcoming June election. Kanu has previously served the nation at different levels and at different times in governance for both parties.
