Roberto Firmino is poised to depart Liverpool on a free transfer at the conclusion of the current season, and it appears that Barcelona is his most likely destination. The Brazilian forward, who will turn 32 in October, has been with the club since 2015 and has scored an impressive 109 goals in 360 appearances at Anfield. It will be a challenge for Liverpool to replace him.
However, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may have already identified Firmino's successor. Following the team's 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest, Klopp praised Cody Gakpo, a Dutch forward who has scored five goals in 14 Premier League games since joining PSV in the January transfer window.
Klopp noted that Gakpo, who started in the center-forward position for Liverpool, is a versatile player who can also play on the wing or as a second striker. Although Klopp acknowledged that no one can replicate Firmino's unique style, he suggested that Gakpo could carve out his own niche in the role.
Liverpool's victory over Nottingham Forest kept their slim hopes of qualifying for the Champions League alive, but they face an uphill battle, as they are currently nine points behind Newcastle with only seven games remaining in the season.
