Julius Maada Bio Declared Winner in Sierra Leone's 2023 Presidential Elections

 

The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has officially declared the final results of the Sierra Leone 2023 presidential elections. According to the Chairman of the ECSL, Mohamed Konneh, who also serves as the National Returning Officer, the incumbent President and candidate of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP), Julius Maada Bio, emerged as the winner of the election.


Julius Maada Bio secured a total of 1,566,932 votes, which accounts for 56.17% of the total votes cast, according to the Electoral Commission. This significant support from the electorate solidified his victory in the presidential race.


The All People's Congress candidate, Samura Wilson Kamara, garnered 1,148,262 votes, representing 41.16% of the total votes. Other candidates, including the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the People's Democratic Party (PDP), and the Citizens Democratic Party (CDP), received smaller percentages of the votes.


These results were meticulously cleared and verified by the ECSL Result Management systems at Regional Tally Centres located in Freetown, Bo, Kenema, Makeni, and Port Loko. The electoral process encompassed all 16 districts of Sierra Leone, where elections were conducted on the specified day.
