"Sierra Leone Bar Association Urges Unity to Prevent Political Crisis Ahead of Elections"

PREVENTING POLITICAL CRISIS: SIERRA LEONE BAR ASSOCIATION URGES UNITY AHEAD OF ELECTIONS

As Sierra Leone approaches its upcoming multi-tier election, the Sierra Leone Bar Association has issued a timely reminder to the local public regarding their crucial role in preventing political turmoil.

Through a widely circulated flyer, the Association has highlighted Section 13 of the 1991 Constitution, emphasizing the rights and responsibilities of citizens during the electoral process.

According to the quoted section, "Every citizen shall foster a sense of nationalism and patriotism, prioritizing loyalty to the state over sectional, ethnic, tribal, or other affiliations."

The message has resonated with many individuals amidst the prevailing tensions surrounding the forthcoming elections. Citizens have expressed their satisfaction with the Association's initiative.

In related news, the Chief Electoral Commissioner of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), Mohamed Kenewui Konneh, has rejected a request made by the main opposition party, All People's Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Dr. Samura Kamara.

On Wednesday afternoon, Kamara demanded the resignation of Konneh and all Regional Commissioners within 72 hours. However, Konneh has declined the request, citing their unwavering commitment to conducting the elections as scheduled.

In the meantime, both the ruling Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) and the National Grand Coalition (NGC) have expressed confidence in Konneh's ability to oversee the electoral process.
