Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has been sworn in after President Julius Maada Bio's successful reelection in the 24th June polls. The ceremony, held at State House in Freetown, took place on Thursday morning.
In his address, Vice President Jalloh expressed his gratitude to God and thanked President Bio for the confidence placed in him during the past five years. He pledged to serve with diligence and dedication in the remaining five years of President Bio's term.
The swearing-in ceremony followed President Bio's inauguration on Tuesday, after the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone declared him the winner with 56 percent of the vote.
"Through the successful conduct of the 2023 multi-tier elections, Sierra Leone stands as a proud example among young democracies, showcasing our efforts to consolidate democratic progress," President Bio remarked.
However, the main opposition All People's Congress (APC) contested the election result and accused the Electoral Commission of rigging the outcome. Lansana Dumbuya, the Secretary General of the APC, stated that the result does not reflect the choice of the majority.
Meanwhile, President Bio extended an invitation to the APC Presidential Candidate, Samura Kamara, to work together for the betterment of the country. "The task ahead is enormous, but by working collectively, we can build the nation of our dreams," the President emphasized.
As of now, the main opposition APC has not commented on the President's invitation.
