Magistrate Sahr Kekura, presiding at Ross Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, has ordered the detention of an individual named John Sesay at the Male Correctional Facility on Pademba Road. This comes after allegations that Sesay engaged in disrespectful and confrontational behavior towards a police officer.
According to a report by Awoko, Sesay is facing legal charges related to disorderly conduct, insulting behavior, and incitement to public disturbance, all of which are in violation of the law. The incident is said to have taken place on August 15, 2023, on Dan Street in Freetown. During this incident, Sesay allegedly exhibited disorderly conduct, used insulting language, and provocatively engaged with Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abdul Razak Kamara, creating a situation that risked disrupting the peace.
In court, ASP Abdul Razak Kamara provided a detailed account of the events that unfolded on August 15, 2023. He stated that he was on duty at the Dan Street Police Post from 10 pm to 1 am, attending to a reported matter. During his investigation, Sesay arrived at the scene carrying stones, which he proceeded to throw at an individual identified as Amodu. This action led to a physical altercation between Sesay and Amodu. Inspector Sama intervened to separate the two individuals after which Sesay persistently exhibited aggressive behaviour towards Amodu, despite warnings from ASP Kamara. This ultimately resulted in Sesay's arrest.
ASP Kamara further recounted that Sesay displayed audacious fearlessness, using offensive language directed at the police officers present.
Subsequently, Sesay was held in custody as the case was transferred to the Ross Road Police Station in Freetown for further inquiry.
Following ASP Kamara's testimony, the defense counsel, Alie Santos Sesay, made efforts to secure bail for his client, but these attempts proved unsuccessful. As a result, Magistrate Kekura ordered that Sesay be detained at the Male Correctional Facility on Pademba Road in Freetown. The case was adjourned until August 30, 2023.
