UNIMAK Achieves Historic Milestone: 42 Inmates Graduate from University of Makeni

In a groundbreaking achievement, 42 inmates from the Makeni Correctional Center have graduated from the University of Makeni (UNIMAK), marking a significant moment in the institution’s commitment to providing education to all. This achievement was the result of a special learning initiative led by Unisa Patrick Kamara (UPK) of the Development Studies Department.

The graduation ceremony, which took place today, saw 39 male and 3 female graduates, each of whom successfully completed their academic journey despite the challenges they faced. The initiative serves as a testament to the transformative power of education, offering second chances and opening doors to new opportunities.

The program, designed to offer inmates the chance to study and earn their degrees while incarcerated, aims to promote rehabilitation and reintegration into society through learning. It is a clear reflection of UNIMAK’s mission to not only provide academic excellence but also contribute to social change and empowerment within the community.

These graduates have now paved the way for others, demonstrating that education is not just a privilege, but a right that can change lives, even in the most difficult of circumstances. The ceremony was a moment of pride and hope, both for the graduates and for those who believe in the power of second chances.

UNIMAK continues to push boundaries and prove that with the right support, education can reach everyone, regardless of their past.

Congratulations to the new graduates, and a heartfelt thank you to all those who made this achievement possible!
